The “blue bag” story

Over 50 years ago, my uncle brought some canvas bags from Holland to our family in Canada. They were all blue so we called them the “blue bags”. We used them to haul everything…groceries, beach gear, laundry, records, camping accessories, clothes, tools, gifts…absolutely everything! These very same bags are still hard at work, serving our family beyond reasonable expectation. It is the “blue bag” that serves as the inspiration for troovkram canvas works.

FAQs

What is duck canvas?

Cotton Duck” or “numbered duck” canvas fabric is a double fill fabric woven with a “plied yarn” construction. This weave creates a tighter, smoother texture than single fill cotton ducks. It also makes it somewhat more rigid and notably more durable than single fill. This dense, tight weave makes numbered duck fabrics a suitable outdoor canvas for many applications. Cotton Duck fabric has been used for centuries and is perfect for historical reproductions, sturdy tote bags and other applications where durability is key.

What is a live edge?

All troovkram goods have a live edge…they will fray until they don’t and then you’ll have a fuzzy little edge, it won’t break the seam. All edges have been pre-pulled but a strand or two may need removing.

Cleaning and Care

Hand washing is recommended. With a stiff brush remove any dirt or debris from the surface of the fabric. Submerge the item in cold water with a mild detergent for 1-2 hours, occasionally agitating the item. Rinse with cold water and hang to dry. Air dry only.

Never use bleach when cleaning fabric. Bleach will cause damage.

No guarantees can be made regarding colour fastness or colour transference during the washing or cleaning process.

Machine Washing. Please note that canvas will shrink when machine washed. Under normal conditions, please allow for 3% shrinkage. This level is normal and not considered a defect.

To Machine Wash please close any zippers, and wash right side out. With a stiff brush remove any dirt and debris from the surface of the fabric. Wash the item separately in clod water using a mild detergent. Hang to dry. Air dry only.

Please note machine washing will soften the canvas.
